You shouldn't exist, so why do you?

What are the odds on yourself and every other human coming into existence? The odds are mind-blowing...

I'd say the odds of my existence are pretty good.

I did watch it, thanks.

thing is, if I wasn't born as me then I would've been born as someone else, so it's all good!

hard to say why there is any life at all

beyond any notion of a higher force/power/source/etc.

Hardly a surprise if you understand anything about probability. The number of possible outcomes so vastly exceeds the number of actual outcomes that any particular event will seem to be massively unlikely. The number of possible bridge hands, for instance, is about 615 thousand million, but you wouldn’t look at your cards and conclude it’s so unlikely you couldn’t have been dealt it, you’re certain to get one of the possible ones. It’s only when something noteworthy happens, like getting a perfect hand, that people take notice, but the odds on that are exactly the same as for any other hand. Same with people: heredity is such that the number of possible people hugely exceeds the number of actual people, but every conception—and just that one step has odds against it of several hundred million to one in terms of which sperm wins the race to the egg—is going to produce *somebody*.

and the fastest spermies aren't always the smartest ones, which goes a long way in accounting for humanity's lot. lol
