Prince Harry, Meghan Markle miffed by 'savage' 'Family Guy' attack: 'Outrageous slur'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly angry after they were mocked for doing nothing much of consequence in a recent Family Guy episode.
Sources close to the couple claim that the pair thinks their portrayal amounted to an “outrageous slur” and was a “savage” attack, according to Closer magazine [per the New York Post].
In the episode, main character Peter Griffin (voiced by series creator Seth MacFarlane) jokes that he’ll “go it alone, just like Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.”
The scene then cuts to cartoon depictions of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are seen catching some sunshine by a pool when a butler approaches them and says, “Sir, your millions from Netflix for … no one knows what.”
“Put it with the rest of them,” the animated Harry replies.
After a phone buzzes, the Meghan character says, “Babe, time to do our daily $250,000 sponsored Instagram post for Del Taco.”
The cameo ends with the made-up Harry expressing regret that he ditched his life as a member of the Royal Family. “I shouldn’t have left the made-up nonsense,” he says.
Sources close to the pair say that reaction to the episode has left them feeling like “they’re not being taken seriously.” An insider added that they think “they can’t catch a break” and are being targeted “from inside Hollywood.”
The characterization, a source continued, “made it crystal clear that the tides have turned against them in America.”
“What’s hit them hardest and cuts the deepest of all is that it plays up the whole notion they’re self-entitled grifters or spoilt brats,” the insider added.
The duo were also mocked earlier this year on South Park when the animated series poked fun at Meghan and Harry’s announcement that they wanted to move to the U.S. and live a private life.
Meghan and Harry weren’t named in the episode but the twosome — who stepped down from royal duties in 2020 — bore a strong resemblance to the characters, the Prince and Princess of Canada, who demand privacy while drawing attention to themselves.
The cartoon couple are shown carrying “We want our privacy” and “Stop looking at us” signs. At one point, the wife character is described as a “sorority girl, actress, influencer and victim,” which prompts her to respond: “Yeah, that’s totally me.”
The swipes at the couple’s seemingly glamorous life comes after their deal with Spotify fell apart earlier this year, which led to United Talent Agency CEO Jeremy Zimmer branding Meghan as untalented.
“Turns out Meghan Markle was not a great audio talent, or necessarily any kind of talent,” Zimmer told Semafor at the 2023 Cannes Lions advertising festival. “And, you know, just because you’re famous doesn’t make you great at something.”
The partnership between Spotify and Prince Harry and Meghan’s production company, Archewell Audio, was announced in late 2020 with the couple set to host and produce “podcasts that build community through shared experiences and values.”
Their first series, Archetypes, launched last summer and featured guests like tennis star Serena Williams, singer Mariah Carey and Office star Mindy Kaling.
After the deal ended, Bill Simmons, Spotify’s head of podcast innovation and monetization, slammed Meghan and Harry, calling the pair “f—ing grifters.”
“I wish I’d been involved in the Meghan and Harry leave Spotify negotiation,” Simmons said on an episode of his own podcast called The Ringer. “‘The F—ing Grifters‘ That’s the podcast that we should’ve launched with them.”
Simmons had previously lambasted the duo in a 2022 episode of his podcast: “Shoot this guy to the sun… I’m so tired of this guy,” he said of Harry [per Variety]. “What does he bring to the table? He just whines about s*** and keeps giving interviews. Who gives a s***? Who cares about your life? You weren’t even the favourite son.”
Still, the Sussexes still have a business relationship with Netflix, which led to their global streaming hit, Harry and Meghan last year, as well as two other series, Heart of Invictus and Live to Lead.
But after the Family Guy diss, the couple are scrambling to repair their public perception.
“Meghan said she won’t be humiliated like this and is desperate for a solution. They’re in full panic mode,” an insider says.
