Prince Edward, the King's brother, has met a circa 192-year-old tortoise during his visit to the South Atlantic island of Saint Helena.

The tortoise, named Jonathan, was born circa 1832 during the reign of King William IV.

Saint Helena is part of the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha and is notable for being the place where Napoleon died in 1821, after being imprisoned there by the British since his defeat at Waterloo in 1815.

Jonathan has outlived seven British monarchs: William IV, Victoria, Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII, George VI and Elizabeth II.

Prince Edward's mother, Elizabeth II, met Jonathan in 1947 as Princess Elizabeth with her mother and father.
