If anybody has seen the documentary, Don't F*ck with Cats, they will remember the name Luka Magnotta. Luka Magnotta uploaded two separate animal cruelty videos online in which he suffocated kittens in one video and a puppy in another. Those who saw the video were horrified, but that was just the opening act.
Magnotta would then lure a male Chinese International student, Jun Lin, to his apartment. Once inside the psychopath's apartment, Magnotta killed him and dismembered Lin on camera as he had with the cats and puppy. He then uploaded the video to a website hosting gory images and videos, which were viewed online. After that, he mailed dismembered body parts to the Federal Liberal and Conservative headquarters. Two other packages were sent to schools (Right hand and right foot), one an elementary school. Mr Lin’s torso was found in a suitcase behind a Montreal apartment building by a janitor. His head recovered after anonymous tip reported a head on the shore of a Montreal lake.
Magnotta fled the country but was later arrested at an Internet café in Berlin and brought back to Canada to face trial. He was found guilty on December 23, 2014, and given a life sentence with a possibility of parole after 25 years.
Magnotta is now 41 years old, and they have seen fit to move this killer to an undisclosed medium security facility. No doubt so that Paul Bernardo will have someone to keep him company. I am aghast with our justice system and it’s obtuse framework that moves a serial killer to a medium security prison. This same system also sent a child killer to an indigenous healing lodge before public outcry, and she was moved back to federal facility. For horrific context, Terri-Lynne McClintic abducted eight-year-old Tori Stafford after school. She kidnapped the child so her boyfriend, Michael Rafferty, could rape the child. After he was finished raping and torturing this innocent child, Terri-Lynne McClintic used a claw hammer to kill the eight-year-old. Tori’s rapist torturer, Michael Rafferty, has since been moved to medium security as well.
The details of this writing are very graphic, but I did so to illustrate that these people are not misunderstood victims but cold-blooded killers who derive sexual pleasure from the act of torture and murder.
There are those who are not salvageable, can never be trusted again, and downgrading their security is a fools errand.
