From bats to earthquakes and from people eating meals during the ceremony to black cats, here are some weird things that have happened in coronations over the centuries.

Will something bizarre happen during the Coronation of King Charles III?

I'd like to see a real corona around Chuck's noggin.

You'll see him wearing the St Edward's Crown, as he is seated upon St Edward's Chair. Charles III will wear the Crown just that once during the Coronation and he will never wear it again. The next time it'll be worn will be by his son William during his Coronation. The last time it was worn was by Elizabeth II during her Coronation on 2nd June 1953. After the Coronation it will go back to being locked up and guarded by the Beefeaters at the Tower of London, because it's estimated to be worth £45 million.

speaking of bad omens...

I once attended a friend's outdoor wedding reception in a rural setting somewhere north of Oakville, Ontario, when (something I had never witnessed before nor since) a large group of vultures (about 30 I estimate as they wouldn't hold still enough to count!) began to circle - hold wake, overhead.

and I thought to myself that cannot be a good sign.

what would you make of it?

(I call this game Take a Monarch Thread and turn it into Something Else)
