Some you have to worry about though, & others not so much…for the short time that I was a plumber I had to learn about black widow spiders, which could be found in basements out here on the prairie. The rest of them I’m not worried about.

Many spiders are too small for their fangs to penetrate human skin.

The largest spider in Britain is the cardinal spider, with a leg span of five inches (12 cm). That's twice as large as Canada's largest spider, the wharf spider.

The cardinal spider is so-called because King Henry VIII's almoner Cardinal Wolsey saw one at court and was terrified of it. I certainly wouldn't like to see one stuck in my bath.

A cardinal spider...

the hiker's bane in Ontario is the massasauga rattler.

sometimes they have no rattle!

it does have a non-poisonous look-alike to make "no rattle" a trickier detail.

good detail to note when swimming:

Massasaugas will have their whole body floating on top of the water when they swim, like a pool noodle!

How they swim: Watersnakes swim with just their heads above the water.

Fun fact: the Northern Watersnake is one of several species of snake in Ontario that don’t lay eggs, instead they give live birth!
